Project Name:

Pier One Seismic Upgrade

Location: San Francisco, California

Owner: Nibbi Brothers

Description of Project, Scope of Work Performed:

This was a large marine project which involved driving 24” and 48” piles, deck and beam demolition, cast-in-place caps, beams, and decking, replacement of the fendering system, and installation of a below deck wastewater system with two pump stations.  Significant portions of the project were performed from our barges.  The work was staged both on the site and from our port facility in Alameda.

The pier underwent a complete seismic upgrade and reconstruction concurrent with the General Contractor renovating the above pier structure.  Because our work was on the critical path, the schedule was of paramount importance.  Power Engineering Contractors had responsibility for coordinating our work with that of a dozen different subcontractors working with the General Contractor in a very confined area.

In addition, this was a highly visible project.  It was located adjacent to the San Francisco Ferry Building, a national landmark and the embarking point of a number of ferries. Therefore, environmental concerns received top priority from our management team.  We complied with all permits and regulations, incurring no lost time for either safety or regulatory reasons.
