Project Name:

Pier 1-1/2 to 5 Marginal Wharf Repair Project

Location: San Francisco, California

Owner: Port of San Francisco

Description of Project, Scope of Work Performed:

Power Engineering Contractors, Inc. was contracted by the Port of San Francisco to repair the underside of the existing concrete wharf.

The repair of the concrete deck originally called for removing spalled concrete, welding new rebar to existing and installing gunnite.  Early demolition revealed that little or no reinforcing remained in the structure.  Consequently, Power Engineering and the Port worked on a design/build basis to conduct exploration, destructive testing and the development of a new repair scheme.  The new repair involved constructing new pile and girder “shells” around the existing elements and casting a new deck beneath the existing deck.
